The Audi Ignition Coil is no more than an electrical transformer. It comprises both primary and secondary winding circuits. The coil primary winding has 100 to 150 turns of heavy copper wire that are securely insulated so that the voltage doe not leak out and jump from one loop to another, possibly causing a short circuit. In case of a short circuit, it would no longer generate the primary magnetic field that is required. The primary circuit wire goes from the coil through the positive terminals, loops around the primary windings, and then moves out through the negative terminal. This primary circuit operates at a battery voltage (12 to 14.5 volts) which is enough to create the needed signal to fire the spark plug at exactly the right time and transmitting this signal to the coil.
The coil secondary winding of the Audi Ignition Coils contains 15,000 to 30,000 turns of fine copper wires which are also securely insulated from each other to prevent possible shorting out. This is positioned inside the loops of the primary windings. In order to increase the coil’s magnetic field, the windings are encases around a soft iron core. To ensure the heat from the current flow, the coil if packed with oil which will keep it cool. Because the Audi Ignition Coil is the heart of the ignition system, it must always be at its tip-top shape. When current passes through it, it creates a strong magnetic field. This voltage is then routed to the spark plugs via the distributor.

The Audi relay is a switching device that employs a small electrical current to control a much larger current in a second circuit. Originally, this switch is operated by an electromagnet that opens or closes various sets of contacts. It is capable of controlling an output circuit of higher power than the input circuit and thus, can be considered as a form of an electrical amplifier...
